This 11-week beginners' course will provide introductory exposure to the art of wheel throwing; a fundamental method of working with clay. Brief lectures in the beginning of class will touch on the history of clay as a fine art medium, contemporary ceramics, and the skills we will be building to make our own work. Students will learn how to manipulate clay on the potter’s wheel to create functional, unique and personal pieces. We will focus on learning basic forms such as cups, bowls, mugs, and plates. Additionally, at the end of the course, students will learn how to embellish their pieces using slips and high fire glazes. This class is for students with no prior wheel experience, all are welcome. The course fee includes 25# clay and bisque, glaze firing fees are additional. Class size will remain at reduced capacity for increased social distancing, masks indoors remain mandatory. Proof of vaccination required prior to 1st class.
