How Low Can you Go: Earthenware Surface and Glaze 22S_ST01

In this 9-week course participants will delve in to low-fire decorating and painting methods. Participants will explore traditional, domestic pottery and tile work through a series of demonstrations designed to provide a basic understanding of coil and slab construction. Brush work, sgraffito, wax resist and burnishing techniques will be covered, along with majolica, china paint and luster surface application.  This course is intended for students that have completed a minimum of one previous clay course. Course fee includes 25 lbs. of clay and bisque firing, glaze firing fees are additional. Class size will remain at reduced capacity for increased social distancing, masks indoors remain mandatory. Proof of vaccination required prior to 1st class.

Instructor: Volker Schoenfliess

VOLKER SCHOENFLIESS is one of the founding member artists of Baltimore Clayworks and he is a graduate of Towson University. In addition to being an instructor with Clayworks for 30+ years Volker is an instructor at the Baltimore School for the Arts and the JCC at Owings Mills. His narrative figurative ceramic work illustrates a wry sense of humor and whimsical take on human nature.
